The charter is of extreme importance in the context of the history of Aquileian patriarchate as it features the very first mention of Maynard as the advocate of the Church of Aquileia, the Meinardus advocatus being identified as Count Maynard I of Gorizia, the progeny of the noble house that would continue to hold the office of Aquileian advocates as their hereditary title for centuries to come.
In the context of Istrian history, the recipient, St. Peter's monastery in Karst, is the same monastic institution that Count Ulrich II of Weimar donated to Patriarch Ulrich I Eppenstein and the Church of Aquileia in 1102 (see the donation charter here).
The language of the charter and the surviving text is markedly jumbled; whether the charter was originally written in bad Latin or whether this is a consequence of later copying cannot be inferred - most probably it is a combination of both factors.
The list of the witnesses is broken into two sections, the first featuring only a nameless provost of Cividale, the second a list of eight witnesses, plus another two witnesses following the scribal completion line. Perhaps the original charter featured a list of witnesses in two columns and the subsequent copyist transcribed it without paying much attention to the outline.
The monastery of St. Peter, together with its mill in Buzet, will be donated to the Venetian monastery of St. Nicholas of Lido by Gerard's successor, Peregrine I, in 1133 (edited here). This donation will be confirmed by Patriarch Wolfger in 1205 (edited here).
