The original is lost, and it was lost already in the 14th century; the text survives in the following manuscript traditions:
C = Venice, Archivio di Stato di Venezia, S. Giorgio Maggiore, Processi, busta 70, Proc. 125A; a certified copy made on May 21, 1223, based on a copy from December of 1116 (nowadays lost), which was, in turn, based on the lost original. The 1116 copy features the following certifications:

L = Venice, Archivio di Stato di Venezia, Pacta e aggregati, Liber Albus, fols. 267v–270r; a mid-14th-century simple copy of an official ducal confirmation of the copy of this charter, issued by Doge Bartolomeo Gradenigo on August 26, 1340, in which this charter is copied as an insert; the ducal confirmation of the copy is edited as a separate document, doc. 1340_CG.
The insert in this 1340 confirmation is based on a copy of the original, lost already in 1340, that was made between March 1 and August 30 of 1106 (anno Domini 1106 more Veneto and 14th indiction according to the Byzantine style). This 1106 copy has the following certifications:

All the other copies, which are many (cf. Lanfranchi’s edition cited below), stem either from C or from L and suffer from copyists’ emendations to various degrees. These later copies will, therefore, not be taken into account in this critical edition.
Previous Editions
Luigi Lanfranchi (ed.), S. Giorgio Maggiore, vol. 2: Documenti 982–1159 (Venice 1968), doc. 31, pp. 93–99; based on C with different readings from L reported in the critical apparatus.
FIM Edition
Collated edition based on CL, primarily following C. The long list of witnesses and signees is structured differently in C and L. C, the older and generally more trustworthy than L, has the list of witnesses structured partly in columns and partly in a linear format, making it difficult to infer when one format changes to the other. Lanfranchi refrained from any editorial interventions and transcribed the list of witnesses mimicking the format of C. I have opted to edit the list of witnesses in a conventional way, which required a certain degree of editorial intervention. The list of witnesses follows C, ignoring the order in L which seems to be jumbled.

Medieval Recollections

The decision of the Great Council of Venice, promulgated on October 22, 1297, decreeing that, since the Patriarchate of Grado had been receiving wine of poor quality from the Capodistrians, it should be added to the instructions of the podestàs of Koper that only good quality wine should henceforth be given; the original tribute of one hundred urns of wine was already increased to two hundred urns at this point – edited here as doc. 1297_MC2210.

Doge Bartolameo Gradonigo’s official confirmation of the copy of this donation, promulgated on August 26, 1340 – edited here as doc. 1340_CG.

“Tunc dux, colectis clero et populo, patriarchalis sedia inopie compaciens, ducentarum amphorarum vini censuro a Iustinopolitanis anuatim sibi debitum et teras in Eraclia patriarche perpetuo concesit, cui etiam episcopi et abbates anuales honorificencias exibere promiserunt.” – Andrea Dandolo, Chronica per extensum descripta, ed. Ester Pastorello, RIS, ser. 2, 12/1 (Bologna 1938–1958), p. 215.

“[I]l doxe li lasso quelle 200 anfore di vin che Histriani li dovea dar a l’anno per regalia, siche de cetero le dàgino per elemosina al vescovo di Castello [sic!].” – Marin Sanudo, Le vite dei dogi, ed. Giovanni Monticolo, RIS, ser. 2, 22/4 (Città di Castello 1900), p. 154.

Editor's Notes

The confirmation charter of the donations enacted by Doge Domenico Contarini is notable in the context of Istrian history because the tribute of one hundred amphorae of wine that the Capodistrians had promised to the Venetian doge back in 932 (see doc. 932_PI) was hereby redirected to the Patriarchate of Grado. By 1297 (see doc. 1297_MC2210) this tribute would be doubled, from one hundred to two hundred amphorae of wine. This is why Dandolo writes of the tribute of 200 amphorae, and this was, somewhat erroneously, taken over by Marin Sanudo (see Medieval Recollections above).

The patriarch of Grado mentioned as Dominicus in the charter is to be identified as Domenico Cerbano, the successor to Domenico Marango (patriarch of Grado from 1050 to 1073). Thus, as argued by Canzian (cited above), the ducal gift to the Patriarchate of Grado would coincide with the official election and consecration of the new patriarch in 1074.

There are some concerns regarding the date of this charter. Namely, in December of 1074, thus after the promulgation of this charter, Pope Gregory VII sent a letter to the doge of Venice, lamenting the poverty of the patriarchs of Grado (letter II/39, see the letter edited here). Thus, it would be logical to assume that the confirmation of donations to the Patriarchate of Grado would be motivated by the papal letter, but this cannot be if the charter in question was promulgated in September of 1074. From a diplomatic perspective, however, there is no reason to doubt the dating of this charter.
